Absent opened in early 2026 on Rua da Glória in Príncipe Real. The premise is simple: a space where you’re not supposed to be on your phone. At the door, your phone goes into a secure pouch: it stays with you, you can unlock it anytime and step outside, but inside the expectation is clear.
What you do with the time is up to you. The space has art and craft supplies, books worth reading, board games, quiet corners. People come to draw, journal, work on creative projects, read, talk, or do nothing in particular. There’s no pressure to be productive about it. The design — lighting, colour, texture — is chosen to make presence easier rather than something you have to try at.
Coffee is from Olisipo Roasters. Wine is from across Portugal. Craft beers from Dois Corvos. Food rotates with local chefs. Memberships available if you want to make it a regular thing. Weekly events too, including occasional nights with The Offline Club.
Four months in and it’s already full of regulars. Probably the most deliberate answer to distraction that’s opened in Lisbon.
